Many
people are embarrassed or feel ashamed to go to a therapist
by themselves in the pat society associated seeing a
therapist as a sign of mental sickness and craziness.
Today, we know that psychotherapists can help with all
types of problems, and that all people can benefit at
times from professional help. To see if we are good
match for each other, we schedule a mutually agreeable
time to meet in my office. Our initial meeting is usually
for one hour, where we get to know each other, define
what you would like to accomplish, and talk about what
has held you back from accomplishing it so far. If you
have already given thought to these matters, great.
If not, I will ask you a number of questions designed
to help you identify your problems, and give you a general
outline of where we go from there. We will then discuss
the frequency of visits, methods used, and what kind
of progress can be reasonably expected, as well as any
other questions you may have.
